Swazzle
RaS now has its own website

Rename and sort application has its own website setup at: http://renameandsort.com/

Currently on version 0.83 which is a nice improvement. So go try it out :)

Feel free to give any feedback here or over at the RaS site.

File renamer and sorter

A while back I talked about a drag and drop file sorter. I have been building this functionality as a separate app so people can test it without needing Swazzle.

But the application alone is very useful so I put in quite a few features, like able to rename video file names, music file names, photos file names (sorting to come later). I have polished it up as a runnable Jar file (like an exe). You need Java 6 to run and I’ve tested it both on Windows and Mac. It’s called RaS (Rename and Sort).

I have decided I don’t have time to work on Swazzle alone with a full time job and a life, so I’m going to just do small projects like RaS. If I come back to Swazzle then I will integrate RaS into it.

What’s happening?

Been very busy with my new work and life stuff that I haven’t had really any time to start working on this project.

Nothing too much to report, from what spare time I have put into Swazzle has just been research and bug fixes.

I have looked into a new library that Oracle has been building called JavaFX 2 which when it’s out of beta I’ll be using that. It will give quite a few advantages like easy CSS theming, easy and pretty GUI effects, backed up with their Prism layer (full hardware acceleration), video and browser support, etc. Should make building Swazzle easier and more fun :)

I have also submitted Swazzle as an idea on http://brightideaschallenge.co.nz/ They will be ringing me on Tuesday to do some kind of interview or so. So wish me luck! The winner of this contest gets $25,000 to work on their idea.

Back to work

Still looking for a new job, but I’ll make a bigger attempt to do some programming on this project :)

I’ve updated this blog to now use the logo and I’ve added a favicon. Not sure if the favicon is working correctly on IE, I’ll look into that later(the problem was that I was pointing to the sample image on my file host and not the full image). I’ve also noticed some site bugs with IE9 which I’ll also take care of soon.

Lack of updates

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. On my end its been going down hill which have made me too busy with Swazzle of late.

I hope to release some updates soon.

Plan to victory

So what’s the next step for Swazzle?

  1. Getting ready for an alpha release. Finishing up the small amount of features I have and make it fast/stable enough for people to enjoy.
  2. Get the new site up which is currently in design mode.
  3. Putting Swazzle up on a crowdfunding site and try gain some cash for its development.
  4. Design some t-shirts :)

The latest change list:

  • Remove any freezing in the GUI.
  • Optimise thread pools.
  • Rewrote large parts of the loading/sorting/caching.

Quite small of a list, but was a huge amount of work and quite a roadblock. Now the application will be able to scale better, the GUI should never freeze even when under the heaviest of loads (though more testing is needed).  These changes also made ftp usable and working good.

The final of the logo and the avatar is done. Application icon still to come.
